Liturgy: Holy Family (Christmas 1), Year A
Christmas 1: Holy Family, Year A
In the name of the +Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
Grace, mercy and peace from God Our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit be with you all
and also with you
The shepherds hastened to Bethlehem, where they found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. (Luke 2:16)
My dear friends in Christ we gather this first Sunday of Christmas to celebrate the Holy Family of Nazareth which is the model for all who fear the Lord and walk in his ways.
Our special intention for this mass is for families everywhere, that they may be modelled on the Holy Family and for the life, work and witness of this parish, that by the example of the Holy Family it may grow ever more supportive and loving of each of its members.
But as we prepare to encounter God in the these most holy mysteries, we call to mind our sins:
Hear the words of the angel to Joseph:
‘You shall call his name Jesus,
for he will save his people from their sins.’
Therefore let us seek the forgiveness of God
through Jesus the Saviour of the world.
I confess…
The Collect
Let us pray
Heavenly Father,
Help us to live as a holy family,
United in respect and love.
As your family,
Bring us to the joy and peace of your eternal home.
We make our prayer through your Son,
Jesus Christ, Our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you
In the unity of the Holy Spirit.
Ever one God, for ever and ever.
All Amen.
Alleluia
Alleluia, alleluia.
The Word became flesh and dwelt among us,
and we have seen his glory.
All Alleluia.
The Peace
Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given,
and his name shall be called the Prince of Peace.
The peace of the Lord be always with you
and also with you
Prayer after Communion
Eternal Father,
We want to live as Jesus, Mary, and Joseph,
in peace with you and one another.
May this communion strengthen us
to face the troubles of life.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
