Advent 2, Year A
In the name of the +Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
Grace, mercy and peace from God Our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit be with you all
and also with you
People of Zion, the Lord will come to save all nations, and your hearts will exult to hear his majestic voice. (based on Isaiah 30:19,30)
My dear friends in Christ, our journey through Advent this morning calls to mind the Prophets of old who fortold of the coming of the Messiah, whilst our Scripture speaks of John the Baptist – the last of the great Hebrew prophets. His prophetic words echo down over the centuries to us this morning as we prepare to encounter God in these Holy and Sacred Mysteries.
We offer this holy sacrifice with special intention for the life, work and witness of the parish, and especially that we may be open to the call coming from that voice crying in the wilderness.
When the Lord comes,
he will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness,
and will disclose the purposes of the heart.
Therefore in the light of Christ let us confess our sins…
Let us pray
God of power and mercy,
open our hearts in welcome.
Remove the things that hinder
us from receiving Christ with joy, ->
so that we may share his wisdom
and become one with him when he comes in glory,
for he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight,
and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.
In the tender mercy of our God,
the dayspring from on high shall break upon us,
to give light to those who dwell in darkness
and in the shadow of death
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.
The peace of the Lord be always with you
and also with you
Prayer after Communion
you give us food from heaven.
By our sharing in this mystery,
teach us to judge wisely the things of earth
and to love the things of heaven.
Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Christ the Sun of Righteousness shine upon you,
scatter the darkness from before your path,
and make you ready to meet him
when he comes in glory;
and the blessing of God almighty,
the +Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
be among you and remain with you always.
The mass is ended. Go in the peace of Christ.
All Thanks be to God.
