AboutAbout
January 20, 2010The former title of this site: “Me Liturgy, You drains” is a (possibly apocryphal) story of a Parish Priest bogged down in a Church Council meeting (and I think we’ve all been there) when he burst out with that immortal phrase. Sometimes I worry that we get bogged down by buildings and institutions instead of building the Church as the Body of Christ and the spread of the Good News. I am the Vicar of the Roborough Team Ministry, Parishes of Bickleigh & Shaugh Prior, Plymouth in the Diocese of Exeter, and this blog is my spiritual journal. In it I reflect on my ministry, the life of my parish and the wider church, my thinking and research in Digital Theology. It also touches on other things that are distinctly me: an obsession with coffee, technology, computer programming, ballroom dancing and English literature. These are things which help make me one of God’s children and hopefully a better priest I have a reputation for Youth Ministry and the use of Multimedia and Technology in Evangelism. I used to run of the first sacramental alt.worship communities in the UK: the Blesséd Alt.Worship Group and was visible at Greenbelt, Walsingham and many other places. I now curate the Holy Ground | Plymouth inclusive group. Politically radical, Unashamedly Anglocatholic, Deeply Sacramental and wildly, rabidly Inclusive: that about sums me up. I was awarded a Merit for my MA in Digital Theology with CODEC at Cranmer Hall, S. John’s College, Durham. This explores faith and mission through the lens of digital culture. My dissertation which is available here online is the beginnings of my primary interest: Sacraments in Digital Space. I published a book on Creative Ideas in Sacramental Alternative Worship published by Canterbury Press in the Summer of 2010 Creative ideas for Sacramental Worship with Children  published in the Autumn of 2011. Frontline Evangelism with Young People was published in Spring 2012 According to Crockford’s, my life can be summed up as: RUNDELL, Simon Philip. b 67. Univ of N Lon BSc95 Leeds Univ BA01 RGN90. Coll of Resurr Mirfield 99. d 01 p 02. C Southsea H Spirit Portsm 01-04; P-in-c Elson 04-09; V 09-12. I used to love making it on my own vintage commercial Gaggia machine before this Vicarage forced me to sell it due to lack of space; but now have a DeLonghi Bean-to-cup machine. Programming (VB/VBA, PHP, Ajax and Java are my specialities) alt.worship and Liturgy – especially where I can be creative in the worship of God. Digital Video and Photography (Sony Vegas, Nikon D7100 DSLR, Huawei P10 Camera Phone) Books. I adore James Joyce and have a guilty pleasure in Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series. David Bowie, REM, Brian Eno, Van Morrison, the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain and a lot of music in between. I try not to hate, but what I do find intolerable is: Intolerance and Prejudice of any kind Homophobia and Transphobia: you are reading Paul all wrong and applying the wrong bits of OT Law to God’s creation. Trans Women are Women. Trans Men are Men, Non-Binary People are who they wish to be. I also consider myself to be Bisexual. I abhor the idea of Churches applying the abuse of Conversion Therapy. I have problems with some expressions of Evangelicalism, especially those which condemn rather than love as Christ has commanded us to. Who gave them the right to judge instead of God? I also resent their affluence, numbers and easy life, but I am seeking to overcome such un-Christlike feelings. I consider Resource Churches to be drain on the Church’s resources rather than a Resource to the rest of us. [...] Read more...
Easyworship Remote ControlEasyworship Remote Control
November 13, 2014Fr. Simon’s Worship Remote Control There are times when you need to control Easyworship yourself – in schools or in small group worship settings. You can down this from the Google Play Store here   I wrote this client to interact with my PC-based Server Program which can be downloaded from Here You will need to download and install that software on your Easyworship PC. It has been completely rewritten in Java and is much better than the previous version. This enables you to operate Easyworship (tested on 2009 and the newer Easyworship 6) when both client and server are connected on the same WiFi network: moving through slides and schedule items, blanking and clearing the screen. The App sends keystrokes to Easyworship and so does not prevent a user from controlling Easyworship in the usual way from its keyboard, but means that someone within wifi range can run the system.   NEW is the emphasis is viewing either the control screen or the display screen updated at 1 sec intervals for better control. Screenshots Video (of initial version) [lyte id=”qs2RjcOTmKQ” / This software was for his own use by Fr. Simon Rundell SCP (simon@rundell.org.uk) and is now made available to others as PRAYERWARE: Available without cost or charge except that your prayers are asked for Fr. Simon and the Roborough Team Ministry, Plymouth http://www.roborough.org.uk [...] Read more...
Electric Ordo (Calendar) 2023Electric Ordo (Calendar) 2023
September 19, 20152023 Download for Free: From Advent 2022 to Advent 2023 Right click on the above link and select “SAVE AS..” or “SAVE TARGET AS…” or “SAVE LINK AS..” This is my annual release of an Electronic Ordo or Church Calendar, containing daily information and readings for Mass each day according to the Revised Common Lectionary and an Anglican Lectionary in Common Use. It is designed to be imported into electronic calendars which support the iCalendar format. I use it in Google Calendar but it has been proven to work within iCal on the Mac and Microsoft Outlook. Once in Google Calendar, it will synchronise with your Smartphone or Tablet and give you a quick way to check the Colour, the Divine Office or the readings for Holy Communion. I compile this for myself, and as such it may contain errors or omissions, but if the data is wrong, you won’t be the only one making a mistake, I’ll be making it too! This is released FREE, all I ask is your prayers for my ministry and the ministry of the Roborough Team Ministry here in Plymouth: call it prayerware if you like! How to Import to Google (new instructions because Google have changed) 1. Download from the link at the top of the page. I suggest that you right-click and “Save” or “Save as…” as just launching it might by default start loading the Mircosoft Outlook app (or similar) that you never use. 2. Open Google Calendar 1.  On the left hand side, choose which calendar you want to add it to. Click on the 3 vertical dots by the calendar 2. Select “Settings and Sharing” 3. Select “Import & Export” 3. Click on the “filename” and select the file you have just downloaded. 4. When the import is complete, you will see the following… 5. This is an example of the data 4. If you like it, please tell others. All is ask is your prayers (which are, I can assure you, are very much needed…) [...] Read more...
Fr Simon’s Unofficial Remote ControllerFr Simon’s Unofficial Remote Controller
June 17, 2016This is my Android Remote Controller for Presentation Software on the PC. By this, I mean Prezi, the excellent and innovative presentation tool. You can download the App for Android Phone or Tablet from the Google Play Store and you will need the Server component for the PC on which Prezi is displayed, which can be obtained from here This server is written in JAVA (Version 1.8 and above). The app will direct you to download it if you need it, or you can pre-install it from here Server Once run, the PC element runs in the System Tray on the right. Right-clicking brings up the Menu Choosing  Settings enables you to set up your machine, entering the IP Address of your machine and chosing a Port, the default is 59019. You can also select which screen to display which should be the screen on which Prezi is running if you have a 2 screen set up. If there isn’t wifi in the area you are presenting, it can be better to st your phone/tablet up as a hotspot and then connect your PC to that. You will need to find out what IP address the phone has given the laptop, but going back into Settings might reveal that. Problems with Connection Are more often than not down to an issue with: Being on the wrong network, ie 3G and Wifi. They need to be the same, and it often works best if the laptop is actually connected to the phone’s hotspot. Firewalls – you might need to open the TCP Port you are using (default: 59019) for incoming and outgoing traffic The About Screen just asks for your prayers, this package is offered freely, just seeking prayerful support for my ministry here in Plymouth; call it “Prayerware” if you like! Client At the top of the client, enter the IP Address of the Laptop and the Port you had selected. When you save, it will try and connect. A problem in connection is often sue to a firewall issue The buttons should be quite self-explanatory for using Prezi. At the bottom the screen will update with a screenshot once a second. It’s not immediate but it helps you track where you’re going. Note: sometimes you need to click onto the Prezi presentation (either web or desktop app) so that the system knows to direct it’s keypresses to Prezi. Enjoy! [...] Read more...
get_iPlayer GUI Version 2get_iPlayer GUI Version 2
December 26, 2016I love to use the get_iplayer app to record and keep my favourite Programmes, after all, my licence fee has paid for them. Unfortunately, it’s interface is text only and that can be a little intimidating for some, so a couple of years ago, I wrote a GUI front end for it in the AutoIT scripting language, and now it was time to update that in a new language – Java. If you don’t have Java installed, it should offer you the option to do so. Some people don’t like having Java on their PCs, muttering about security, but it is a very secure, sandboxed system. Instructions Download get_iplayer from here and install it. If there is a later version offered, then click the link to access that. Download and install the 32-bit Version, even if you have a 64-bit machine.Download and install my GUI front end from hereWhen you run the app, simply go to your iPlayer window in your browser and copy the address at the top. This is one: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b086tqm4/doctor-who-the-return-of-doctor-mysterio (although that probably is too old now, choose a new one)Go back to my App and paste it into the text box.If it is a Radio program, select Radio, otherwise the default is a TV programmeHit Download and a textbox will open up and do the downloading for you. Get_iPlayer has a folder on the Desktop called “iPlayer Recordings” and you will find all your TV programmes and Radio Shows there I didn’t create get_iplayer, there are cleverer people who have done that, I certainly didn’t make Java, but I make this front end available to the world free-of-charge under a Creative Commons CC-BY-NC License. All I ask you for is your prayers for my ministry here in Plymouth, call it PRAYERWARE if you like! I accept no responsibility for it, I made it for my own use and share it with you because I’m nice like that… [...] Read more...
